This post from Twitter just about says it all...

Jason Scott posted Review of the FC5025, a hardware solution that lets you
read many different floppy formats via USB:

Now, there are a few catches here. First, you need a 5.25 drive, and a way
to power it. And we're talking a PC 5.25 drive here, not an Apple 5.25
drive. Again, the USB device has no way to power the drive, so you have to
provide that on your own. It's read-only. You can read 5.25 disks 'til the
cows come home, but you can't write them. Also, depending on your floppy
drive, you might not be able to read the back side of double-sided disks.
That's because some drives depend on the index hole, which is on a specific
spot on the disk casing, to see if the disk is spinning correctly. If it
can't see the index hole, it can't read the disk. Obviously, when you flip
the disk over, the index hole ends up on the wrong side, and the drive can't
see it. But all in all, an interesting product. I really have no use for it
myself, since I have a working Apple setup, but for those who have 5.25
disks and no working Apple setup, it might be worth a look.
